FAA&F President's Message August 2021
GREETINGS FHS Alumni!!
My name is Deborah Burton from the illustrious class of ‘67. It has been my honor to serve as President of the Franklin Alumni Association & Foundation (FAA&F) for the last year and will do so for upcoming year. I must say that the FAA&F Board has been rejuvenated with outstanding Franklin Alums: Christine Chacòn ‘98, David Duryee’56, Tamiko Miyano ’88, Noah Purcell ‘97, Heleya de Barros ‘02, Erica Merritt ‘93, Herman Houston ’67, Anna Cronin’98, Erica Merritt ’93, Toni Mamallo-Thomas ‘67, Drew O’Connell (ex-officio), ‘97, and Stephanie Ragland, who joined the board when her sons attended Franklin (Nick ’08 & Michael ’11).
Our Mission is to connect alumni to each other and to Franklin, and to support current Franklin students. The future for FAA&F and its mission is bright with the creativity and talent of these board members!
Though COVID prevented us from having in person alumni events in 2020 and most of 2021, we are looking forward to hosting the Hall of Fame Celebration in the spring of 2022, honoring Franklin Alumni who have made significant contributions in our community, and we are committed to renewing and publishing on a regular basis the Quaker Times.
The pandemic deeply affected students and families of Franklin emotionally and economically. Faculty and staff gave 110% to support the students during this time and FAA&F was able to partner with them to provide basic needs like gift cards for food. In addition, we will continue to support the athletic department with funds for uniforms and grants for educational programing. We were also able to provide 8 more $2,000 scholarships to graduating seniors who will be attending college in the fall. With your generosity and the special donations from the classes of 1967 and 1956, thirteen scholarships were awarded, up from the five that we typically award! We thank our OUTSTANDING Scholarship Committee for pursuing additional funding and making it their goal to give a scholarship to all who apply.
I encourage you to get involved and show your “Franklin Love”. Any alums or friends of Franklin who are interested in joining our journey, we always need people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
